Responding to the advent of the Broadband Age, HiNet now provides high-speed ADSL Internet access. Just apply for "Chunghwa Telecom ADSL" and "HiNet Internet Access" to enjoy snappy ADSL broadband browsing. ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) uses modulation/demodulation technology to provide high-speed Internet service over conventional phone lines (known as "twisted pair cable"). While it also uses phone lines, ADSL far surpasses the 56kbps speed limitation of ordinary dial-up modems. ADSL meets the Internet browsing needs of the majority of users by providing blistering download transmission speeds.

In addition, ADSL's separation of "voice" and "data" enables users to make phone calls while they use the Internet. And an ADSL connection no longer leads to the big phone bills that used to be characteristic of dial-up access. Now you can browse the Web with less cost and hassle than ever before.

A computer equipped with a network card is needed before ADSL can be used (fixed systems require the setting of a network card IP address, while non-fixed systems require the installation of PPPoE software). The network card must be connected by network cable to an ADSL modem (ATU-R) installed by Chunghwa Telecom. If one wishes to let several computers share an ADSL connection, the user must install a hub and UTP network cable to link the computers to the ATU-R.

  1. Returning customer discounts may not be used in conjunction with other discounts. The above-listed ADSL transmission bandwidth rates are not guaranteed. Due to distance or environmental restrictions, some ADSL 2M customers may achieve download speeds of only up to 1.5M, while some ADSL 1M customers may achieve download speeds of only up to 512K.
  2. 8M/640K and 12M/1M customers will be provided with the highest speed service possible, with download speeds between 2M~8M and 2M~12M.

Notes:

  1. Regular phone calls may be made while using ADSL service. However, standard local call fees will be applied for all calls. Other variable fees will be charged according to Article 11 of this contract.
  2. Monthly rental fees for temporary service will be calculated in increments of 1/15 of the month. Temporary service does not entitle customers to returning customer discounts.
  3. HiNet service commences on the day that the ATU-R equipment is installed.
  4. For dynamic IP customers, HiNet user accounts may only be used with the ATU-R unit that was installed with the phone line for that account. The number of simultaneous connections using a single account (dynamic IP addresses) is restricted to the number designated by HiNet at the time of application. Each connection is charged separately. In order for the system to efficiently distribute IP resources and to perform scheduled maintenance, dynamic IP accounts that have been continuously connected for 72 hours will be automatically disconnected. Customers must reconnect to continue using ADSL service. HiNet will not be responsible for any complaints or inconvenience due to disconnection for this reason.
  5. HiNet rate changes are effective from the date of work completion. Charges for connection service prior to work completion date will be charged at previous rates.
  6. All HiNet charges will be included with the telephone bill for the phone line installed along with ADSL service.
  7. Customers may apply to retain their original dialup email accounts, but must use the same customer name and ID number as that used to subscribe to the original HiNet dialup service. Upon approval, customers can enjoy the ¡?±no minimum connection fee¡¨ discount for that HiNet dialup account, effective beginning the next month. This discount may not be used in conjunction with other discounts. Other value-added services will be charged according to their respective rates.
  8. Customers who apply to discontinue their HiNet dialup account will also have the original email account deleted along with it. Violation of Article 35 of the contract will result in suspension or termination of the HiNet dialup account, and all legal responsibilities will be borne by the customer. If a customer terminates the lease, the HiNet dialup account will automatically revert to the minimum connection fee system.
  9. Upon approval, customers who have applied to retain their original HiNet dialup email account may not apply for additional account changes.
  10. Customers who apply for VPDN should also submit installation fees (NT$1,000 per line). In addition to fixed monthly HiNet charges, VPDN customers will also be charged NT$0.15 per minute for using the service (partial minutes calculated as full minutes). VPDN service charges will appear on the same bill as the fixed HiNet account service.
  11. Other HiNet value-added services (i.e., Socket to Air, international roaming, HiAir, PLWAN, etc.) will be charged according to rates published on the website.
  12. HiNet reserves the right to suspend or terminate any email accounts, connection accounts or value-added service memberships if a customer discontinues HiNet service.
  13. The special 256K/46K rate for low-income households (NT$100 per month line lease and NT$99 per month HiNet connection fee) may not be used in conjunction with returning customer discounts.
